Robert Whetham Associates has been providing mechanical and electrical (M&E) services to the construction, rail and emergency service sectors for 20 years.

Having worked on several North Wales projects, RWA has now secured an office on Anglesey to provide an enhanced level of responsive M&E consulting services to the North Wales region. We are pleased to be based at the innovative M-Sparc facilities at Menai Science Park in Anglesey.

What are M&E services?

M&E services involve the design, planning, installation and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical systems in multi-occupancy residential, commercial or industrial buildings.

  • Mechanical systems include HVAC systems (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), plant and machinery, lifts, escalators and plumbing.
  • Electrical systems include the supply and distribution of power, cabling, lighting, fire and security systems, telecommunications equipment and IT infrastructure.

M&E consultancy services for improved energy efficiencies in North Wales

Facilities management teams of commercial and public sector buildings are under pressure to meet energy efficiency standards. Well planned and maintained M&E services are instrumental in facilitating energy efficient systems that enable targets for decarbonisation and net zero emissions to be achieved.

RWA conducts energy audits to understand a building’s energy use and efficiency, from which M&E services are designed and implemented to reduce its environmental impact.

Across the North Wales region, RWA is committed to helping both private and public sector organisations to implement energy efficient systems and practices across their electrical and mechanical operations.

By providing a range of M&E consulting services to businesses, universities and public sector sites, RWA can help to make North Wales a more sustainable region.

Air source heat pumps

Air source heat pumps are increasingly designed and installed on commercial properties throughout North Wales, to increase the sustainability and green credentials in buildings.

RWA projects in North Wales

RWA has already provided M&E consultancy services to various establishments in the North Wales region. As well as working for a range of local businesses, high profile North Wales projects carried out in the past include works for Bangor University, North Wales Police and Powys County Council.

Recent projects on Anglesey include new staff facilities at Holyhead Train Station for Transport for Wales and the and the office refurbishment at the Stena Building, Holyhead Ferry Port for Avanti West Coast.

RWA M&E consultancy services for fire stations

RWA’s team of engineers has extensive experience in the design and implementation of M&E services for fire stations.

As detailed in the RWA case studies of M&E consultancy services at both Crewe Fire Station and Coventry Fire Station, RWA engineers prioritise sustainability across all mechanical and electrical services, meeting BREEAM (Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method) standards of excellence.

For the Crewe Fire Station project, RWA worked on both the new fire station, a community building and a temporary fire station building while works were carried out. A 3D model of the building was developed to assess all elements of architecture, engineering and construction to ensure the build was cost-effective.

The Coventry Fire Station project was a new build that required the design of a full suite of M&E services. Renewable technologies that were designed and installed included solar PV (photovoltaic) panels, natural ventilation and LED lighting.

Robert Whetham relishes the prospect of expansion into North Wales

Rob Whetham, Director, commented on the company’s expansion into North Wales:

“We are excited to expand and serve the North Wales region with our M&E consultancy services. It is a region where we have already enjoyed many collaborations to help private and public sector organisations with M&E designs that lead to greater efficiencies and cost-effective outcomes.

We are looking forward to working out of our new Anglesey office which will enable us to be more responsive to our North Wales clients”.
