Reducing Energy usage whilst keeping Fit

  • RWA were proud to be awarded the contract to design the M&E element of the new Royton Leisure facility commissioned by Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council. Appointed by Lewis Facilities the design and build contractor, RWA were commissioned to carry out the detailed design of the mechanical and electrical services on this £8 million project.

The project which was started in January 2015, now delivers excellence in sports and fitness. The facility incorporates the very latest energy saving technology and services including, LED lighting and controls, heating including underfloor heating, ventilation systems, PA systems, combined heating and power system, photovoltaics and swimming pool ventilation. The facility was designed to comply with BREEAM 2011 guidelines.

The combined heating and power system was installed as part of the hot water system, and has significantly reduced the buildings utility costs as the CHP system provided electricity generation which was then offset against the electricity consumption of the building.

Photovoltaics were implemented to provide free electricity from the sun which again was offset against the electricity consumption of the building, and provided a reduction in CO2.

Offering facilities that are second to none in the area, Royton Leisure Centre is a central hub for adults and children of all ages and abilities, providing better and more tailored exercise and leisure facilities than ever before. It has a state of the art 80 station gym with equipment that has in-built entertainment systems plus health monitoring functions and more interactive ways to enjoy your workout. The dedicated spin studio offers latest generation spin bikes plus sound responsive disco lighting adding atmosphere and intensity to every workout.
