Oldham consulting engineers, Robert Whetham Associates (RWA), has landed a key mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineering contract on Merseyside as part of a new Lottery-funded community centre project on a landmark site in Higher Bebington.
The existing, end-of-life church hall built just after the war at a time of scarce materials will be replaced by a wholly new, 390m2, energy-efficient, low maintenance, fully accessible Community Centre. This will offer a wide range of facilities, services, activities and events meeting local residents’ needs.
This £1.1million project has secured a £500,000 grant from the Big Lottery with the balance coming from church members, fund-raising activities, interest free loans and other grants. Completion is scheduled for end-2010.
RWA, which was specified by the Christ Church following industry recommendation, will work alongside Liverpool architects, Weightman & Bullen, to design and implement all M&E services in the new building. Energy efficiency, use of renewable energy sources, ease of operation and cost-effectiveness are some of the key design drivers in this exciting project.
