Our role within the design team as mechanical and electrical engineer was to carry out the full detailed design of the mechanical and electrical services in line with all current standards, building regulations and good codes of practice.
As a new build, the buildings had to incorporate low energy / green technology and to meet BREEAM ‘good’ standards.
We took an innovative approach and utilised our experience from producing mechanical and electrical services design (and consultancy services) on numerous other fire station projects and we integrated renewable technologies and sustainability wherever possible into our design, as detailed below:
- LED lighting c/w absence detection
- LED external lighting of the service yard area
- Air source heat pump based heating system
This not only met the BREEAM “good” standards, but has significantly reduced the buildings utility costs.
